Meet Gertrude

I am Gertrude.  Not Trudy or Gurtie or Gurt or any other silly half name, but Gertrude. I am a professional, therefore, I deserve a professional name. Some say my name is a little old fashioned, but make no mistake, there is nothing old fashioned about me. I've always been ahead of my time.  I pretty much spend my days being fabulous and creating fabulousness.

Ok, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself.  You probably have a thousand questions.                     Let's start here:  I come from a long line of fabulous women. My great grandmother danced the can-can at the Moulin Rouge. Her outfits that were custom made just for her were simply divine.  Imported fabrics, french lace, velveteen....oh, the buttons, the petticoats, the ribbons......I swoon just thinking about it.

My grandmother was in vaudeville and not just on any old stage but Ziegfield's Follies! Right along side Fanny Brice (and was Fanny ever a Funny Girl).   Granny was using feathers in fashion long before Sally Rand ever thought about fan dancing!

Then we get to my mother...French and fabulous!  She is so fond of pearls and sequins. Anything that glittered. I never see her without gorgeous earrings, bracelets, lots of necklaces, and some serious red lipstick - she is, to me, the height of fashion.

And me.....I'm some of all of this, but American to the core. My love of cowboy hats comes from my Mississippi daddy but I can't have anything ordinary.  I must have all the glitter, glam, feathers, flowers that I can fit onto or into any accessory!!  New, vintage, I love it all.  My favorite thing to do is put a mixture of it all.  Why should I limit myself?!

People always wanna know where the "BLU" part came from.  Well, here is the simple answer....just cause I like it.  You don't need a profound reason for everything, people.

I have a crazy passion to create.  I don't feel pressure to follow the rules, or, for heaven's sake, to match all the time.  That's terribly boring.  So, my hope is that you will free yourself to be you.  I mean, really, just be you.  Everyone else is already taken.

Come see me again.  I'll always have new secrets to tell, new fashion ideas, and beautiful pictures to share.

Love,

Gertrude

P.S.  Remember, you're either makin' dust, or you're eatin' it.
